How to Set Goals that Actually Work! 2023 Goal-Setting Strategy

I used to be that girl that would make a long list of grandiose goals every year only to look back at them and maybe accidentally achieving 1-2 of them 🤦🏽‍♀️

The minute I changed how I attacked my goals, everything changed and now I’m achieving most or coming very close to achieving them all. That’s what I’m gonna share with you in this video.

How I set goals that actually work and my goal setting strategy for 2023

⁃ Focus on actions instead of results. So the first thing you wanna do is rephrase how you think of goals. I read a book atomic habits by James clear and in that book he said don’t set goals set systems. So if you just write down a goal of reaching 10,000 subscribers or followers. That is like writing down a dream and your brain doesn’t know what to make of it or how to process that information. So instead you wanna set a goal system of the habits and actions that will lead to that outcome. For example, I want to grow my YouTube subs so instead of simply setting a vanity number. I’m committing to post at least once a week for the entire year.

⁃ This leads me to point 2 - you want to make sure the goal is realistic and measurable. This way you’ll know how you’re doing and if you need to adjust your strategy for achieving it. So In my case, if I want 10k subs and I’m posting quality content each week and midway I’m not at 5k, I can revisit my system for reaching that goal…maybe I need to increase my quantity or my quality. Now of course you want to dream big and set stretch goals - things that challenge you but it can be discouraging if you’re not setting goals that have small wins along the way that can give you momentum and that you can celebrate. So it’s important to check in on your goals periodically.

⁃ My 3rd tip for setting and actually achieving your goals is to focus on your why. What is the purpose behind each and every one of your goals…get crystal clear about why you’re even setting that as a goal in the first place. So for example, I want to set a goal of building my team to grow my business…now why is that? Is it just for growth sake? No…it’s great to make more money but I also value my time and having more freedom to spend with family, traveling and my own personal needs. So having quality support is going to allow me more time freedom in the day to day operations, which is a strong motivator and will keep me going when I feel a bit unmotivated.

⁃ Now the 4th thing that will help you reach your goals is to surround yourself with positivity and motivation. I was surprised to learn how many ppl go through life never setting goals and what tends to happen is that you find yourself in the same spot you were last year and let me tell you these years are rolling! So many ppl poo poo having goals or think it’s a bit sillly but if you understand the power of intentionality and focus then you’ll know how valuable goal setting can really be. So surround yourself with positive ppl who encourage, follow positive accounts online and YouTube, read encouraging books and listen to inspirational podcasts. This is going to fuel you when things get tough and help you to keep going!

⁃ Last but not least, if you really want to realize your goals…you have to reward the progress you make! This is something that seems simple but it has been really hard for me, because it’s easy to just keep going and going and then burnout. In order to understand the importance of setting and reaching your goals, you also need to acknowledge them and your progress is achievement. So as you get closer and you’re on track or you reach a mini goal- treat yourself to massage, a night out, a trip, something! This is going to make you a lifelong goal-setter and achiever!

So I hope that was helpful, drop a comment and let me know which of these stuck out most to you and if you’re up to, I’d love to hear one of your goals for this new year. I wish you all the best and I hope you crush your goals this year and beyond!
